Orlando Regatta Report The Orlando, Fla. Regatta, the 2nd of the Florida EC-12 Association was held on 9-10 April, 2005. Mother Nature was good to us with great weather (70-80’s) and winds in the 5-10 knots range both days. The 19 skippers sailed in 30 heats using a matrix system of 9 or 10 boats per heat. The course sailed on Saturday was 2 times around a box, while on Sunday a triangle plus box was sailed. Racing was keen with 9 of the 19 skippers winning one or more heats. Trailing Joe Walter by 5 points after Saturday, John Bottensek won 4 of the 6 heats sailed on Sunday, while Joe could only take 1 heat and 2 seconds. Dave Thinel was in 3rd, trailing by 7 on Saturday won 2 of his 6 heats on Sunday but a 7 and 8 allowed Gerhard Kelter take 3rd place when he scored 2 first and 2 seconds on Sunday. Harry Strunk was in 4th on Saturday but took a DSQ on Sunday that cost him 3 places. John Rowley with a 3 point lead over Donald Wright on Saturday, survived his 5th place position via the tie breaker system, even though Donald ending up tying him on Sunday. The final standings can be found below. I would like to recognize and thank my help with the regatta. Without them the regatta could not be conducted. Thanks to Don Forbecker and his wife Carol, who ran the finish line and kept score.Tim Hopkins, who changed the marks as needed, loaded stuff in his truck for ease of setting up, lunch agent, and a mark judge on Sunday. Thanks to Kris Simons who was the mark judge on Saturday. Results
