Orlando Regatta Report
Old Friends and New Friends Meet for 24 Races

By Dick Hedderick

The Orlando Regatta, held March 23 & 24, 2013, was the fourth stop on the winter circuit of the Florida EC-12 Association. The regatta was hosted by the Orlando Model Yacht Club at the Sailing Site of The Sunday Sloopers Model Yacht Club. Three new skippers, Ruben Caseres, Doug Cepuran and Richard Sbordone of South Daytona Model Yacht club participated as well as Jim Kelly from The Villages. Great to see new skippers and new boats participating.

The winds were "A" rig conditions Saturday morning, but increased to "B" rig levels for the afternoon. Sunday was "B" rig conditions from 9:30 AM until noon. With 14 boats registered, RD Daryl Krasoski was able to start a single fleet Saturday morning. A two lap course was set up with a start line very close to shore. After 18 races on Saturday, Alan Perkins was leading, with Bob Greer, Dick Hedderick, Tom Phillips, and Martin Gray rounding out the top 5. Racing on Sunday got under way with light "B" rig conditions, but then increased toward noon. Winds of 25+ mph were forecasted, but did not materialize. After 8 more races and winds increasing, RD Daryl Krasoski called a skippers meeting. Due to an approaching front, Daryl recommended that racing end as of 11:30 AM. No skippers objected, having now raced 24 races in two days.

Alan Perkins held his lead on Sunday. Bob Greer and Dick Hedderick alternated for second place. In the end, Bob secured second place by 1 point.
