St. Peterburg Regatta Report We were limited to 32 boats, and by the middle of February,
we were at quota, with a nice size stand-by list. By the time race-day
arrived, we had run thru our stand-by list. The RD ran a tight ship with minimal interruptions or discussions. If he caught you arguing or crossing back in front of the judges at the finsih line there was a 4 point penalty waiting for you. Unfortunately, we had one collision that resulted in Ken Bradfield, Leesburg, having to withdraw. Both fleets were able to finish 10 races before we called it a day on Saturday. Dinner that night was at The Acropolis Greek Traverna. Approximately 45 enjoyed the scrumptious menu and the entertainment. Sunday dawned bright and breezy. The wind kicked up every now and then to keep the sailors on their toes. Again both fleets were able to complete 6 more races each. This was a Chevron race and being the space cadet that I am – I will mail the Chevrons to the three top finishers in Gold Fleet. They were Joe Walter, Jack Wubbe, and Tony Rieck. Congratulations to Al Dion, Jim Black and Bud Cassidy on their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes, earning them a trip to the “A” fleet in Naples. Jim Black by the way was sailing hull number 1. If there is any doubt a 40 year old boat can still be competitive, it should be gone now. I want to thank the volunteers, Jackie Mills scoring, linemen – Eddie Atkinson, John Light, Fred(?) (I’m sorry ,Fred, I don’t know your last name) and Derek Dudinsky boat retrieval. And Vic from IOM who took some great pictures and gave them to the guys. See you in Naples, And the final standings are: Gold-Fleet Results
