St. Petersburg Regatta Report
Bremer rallies to pass Perkins for the win

The St. Pete Regatta had 29 entries and 27 sailors.  Saturday started a little chilly, giving way to wonderfully sunny day with winds 9-14.  After a brief skippers meeting, including a reminder about the “FISH FEEDER,” Ken Morrison gave instructions on correctly filing a Protest/Redress form.  Also, a brief refresher course on tacking in “the zone,” for a Starboard rounding course was then given.  Seven races were completed.  With the 4 seeding heats, that meant a total of 18 heats were sailed on Saturday.

All parties packed quickly to prepare for Dinner at The Acropolis Greek Taverna. We were treated to delicious food and a fantastic Belly-Dancer.  Karen Luscomb, Liz Perkins, Kelly Greer, John Garver and Jim Pardee showed off their excellent dancing skills. Joe Walter then had a remembrance toast for Anne Cassidy.

Sunday dawned cooler and windier, although not as windy as our Submarine Derby last year.  Racing resumed around 9:30 and 5 more races were completed before the 12:30 cutoff.  Trophies were awarded with a background of Dixieland Jazz being played by a local group of banjo, guitar and bass musicians.

Jim Rutherford of Atlanta was the recipient of the Free pass for next year’s regatta.  Bud Elder received the Ancient Mariner’s Award. (If we had had a Fish-feeder award – Bud would have won that also, or maybe Joe Walter.)

Much thanks to Bob and Dee Dudinsky and all their helpers for putting on a great event.
